The Greensmith dess permits utilities to load-shift across time and customers to optimize regional and aggregate energy demand loads for more efficient energy management, reduction in costs, and increased energy distribution reliability. By storing excess electricity at night and using it during the daytime peaks, the unit can shift more than 10KWh of load daily.
The electric power industry has been under increasing pressure from regulators and institutional investors to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions per KWh. Regional initiatives have emerged in the Northeast and the West Coast, e.g. the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (rggi) that sets goals for several New England and Mid-Atlantic states to significantly reduce greenhouse gas initiatives. These and other efforts will drive more efficient use of existing generation plant, as well as encourage the use of renewable energy sources.
